How One woman Ditched Her Insomnia Medicines for Plant Medicine

Insomnia can be frustrating and debilitating. Learn more about the symptoms, causes, and treatment options available to you

What is insomnia and what are the symptoms?
Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that can make it hard to fall asleep, stay asleep, or both. Individuals with insomnia often feel tired during the day and may have trouble concentrating or staying awake.

There are two main types of insomnia: primary and secondary.
  • Primary insomnia is not caused by another health condition and typically lasts for a short period of time.
  • Secondary insomnia is caused by another health condition, such as stress, anxiety,  pain or shifting hormones due to menopause
Symptoms of insomnia can vary from person to person, but may include:
  • trouble falling asleep
  • waking up frequently during the night
  • waking up early in the morning
  • feeling unrested after a night of sleep.
Treatment for insomnia typically includes lifestyle changes and relaxation techniques. In some cases, medication may be prescribed.  Typical conventional medications that are referred to as “Z-drugs” include ambien, Lunesta,  or restoril.  These drugs are indicated for short term treatment of insomnia. You may have heard stories of people driving or eating in bed when on these drugs.  You typically don’t remember what you did while taking these drugs.  They are not safe for long term use.

How cannabis and CBD can help fight insomnia

For many people, the word "cannabis" conjures up images of couch-locked stoners munching on Doritos and watching Netflix. But there's another side to cannabis that's gaining popularity among people who are looking for natural ways to combat insomnia.
  • CBD, or cannabidiol, is a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis that has been shown to help with sleep.
  • THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the psychoactive compound that gets people high, but it can also help with sleep.
  • Research has shown that both CBD and THC can be effective at treating insomnia. CBD is thought to work by reducing anxiety and promoting relaxation, while THC may help to increase drowsiness and reduce REM sleep as it  binds to receptors in the brain that are responsible for inducing sleep.

The different ways to consume cannabis and CBD for sleep and the benefits of using plant medicine

There are many different ways to consume cannabis and CBD for sleep. CBD can be taken in pill form, as a tincture, or inhaled as vapor. THC can be smoked, eaten, or vaporized. And both can be used topically in the form of lotions or oils. There are even CBD bath bombs!

So which method is best? It really depends on the individual. Some people find that smoking or vaporizing THC helps them to fall asleep quickly and get a good night's rest. Others find that consuming CBD in pill form gives them the most consistent results. And still others find that using a topical CBD oil before bedtime helps to quiet their minds and ease them into a deep slumber. No matter how you choose to consume cannabis and CBD for sleep, make sure that you start with a low dose and increase slowly over time to find the perfect amount for you.
Both THC and CBD are effective at treating insomnia, and they can also help to improve the quality of your sleep. In addition, CBD is non-addictive and does not produce the same side effects as other sleep medications. If you're looking for a natural way to improve your sleep, cannabis and CBD may be worth considering.

How to find the right cannabis or CBD product for you

Trying to find the right cannabis or CBD product can feel like a daunting task. With so many different products on the market, it can be hard to know where to start. However, there are a few key factors that can help you narrow down your options and find the perfect product for your needs.
  • First, consider what you want to use the cannabis or CBD for. Are you looking for relief from pain or anxiety because that is what interferes with your sleep? Are you struggling with hot flashes that cause you to wake several times a night?  Once you know what you want to use it for, you can begin to narrow down your options.
  • Next, take into account your preferred method of consumption. Do you want to smoke or vape? Or would you prefer to take a capsule or tincture?
  • Finally, consider your budget. With so many different products on the market, there is sure to be something that fits your needs and budget. By taking these factors into account, you can be sure to find the perfect cannabis or CBD product for you.
So How Did that woman ditch her meds for cannabis?
I am that woman.  I have had sleepless nights for years and years.  It started with early onset menopause at age 36.   I would have flashes at night and have to toss the covers back to cool off.  Then the hormones shifting all around caused anxiety and restlessness and relationship issues.  I would just lay there and my brain wouldn't shut down and sleep wouldn't come.  Out of desperation, I finally saw my provider who gave me Ambien.  Wonder drug!!!!!!  I slept so good!  Trouble is, I wouldn't remember anything at all the next day.  Then I heard stories of people driving around on Ambien and nothing good comes out of that.  I also heard stories of people eating and not remembering.  The only evidence would be the chips all over the bed or half-eaten peanut butter sandwich smashed into the pillow.  I didn't want that for me but I was literally terrified to not have it.  I just kept going back to my provider for refills.  Finally I decided enough was enough!!!  I weaned off using essential oils like lavender and rutavala.  And then I found cannabis!  It has taken a minute to get the right dose but I have found what works!  My sleep app proves it!  I am so happy when I see that I only woke 1 time (had to pee) and was restless for only 10 minutes!  It varies, obviously, but for the most part, I sleep like a baby with my cannabis and essential oils.

So how about you?  Would you like someone to hold your hand and help you get a good night's sleep?  Reach out if you would like that.  I'm here to help!

What's Up? Here is the latest from Me!

What's Up?

Hello there, I hope this email finds you well and safe.  I have been up to a lot lately.  I, fortunately, have not been clocking in and out at an 8-5 job!  I never thought I would be happy about that but the last year and a half has been an adventure in self-discovery and finding new ways to develop financially.

You have already gotten some messages from me about a course I have written to help you start a fitness program.  There’s a planner to go with that and you can get that right here.

I have been helping women balance their hormones because that is a subject near and dear to my heart!!  I have struggled with hot flashes, insomnia, irritability, mood swings, weight gain and more. If you want more info about that you can get it right here

I have been in the business of essential oils for about 6 years now.  I love the oils!  Don’t anyone EVER try to take them away from me.  However, I haven’t had a successful income stream from that endeavor.

So moving forward, I have actually gotten involved with a new company.  It was quite by accident. Why would I do that after basically failing with the previous company?  Well, because I am always looking for something to learn, to do, to explore, to acquire income from, to get healthier using, so I just keep going.  This company is a Health and Wellness company, of course, because that’s what I do.  But what drew me to the company more than the products is the culture, community and comp plan.  They truly care about member success and have put systems in place to help with growth.  They don’t just persuade you to sign up and then leave you hanging not knowing what to do next.  In fact, they have these zoom calls every night at 7:30 PM CST where you can hear all about the company.  I am in a FB community of people from all over the US and Canada.  We are getting to know each other and support each other's success. We are holding FireSide chats that are more time flexible if the 7:30 PM time isn't good for you.

People get nervous with the mention of a network marketing company.  But NWM is a legal and legitimate business structure that offers real products & services sold to customers.  It’s not a pyramid scheme which is illegal.  For a small fee to support your back office you can get started with great products, training and eventually weekly income from this company.  The comp plan is like none I have ever seen!!! AND!!!! Until December 31 you have the opportunity to earn $1000. It’s Christmas cash!

They have products that are very different from the previous company so there really is no comparison.  They have medical grade collagen peptides, sprays that you spray under your tongue to support sleep, B12, Vit D, Vit C, anxiety and metabolism.  That’s just a start!!!

I would love to meet with you and tell you more!!  So click right here for good info!!!  I look forward to hearing from you and joining you on a call.  Oh!!  One more thing, if you can’t make a 7:30 PM call we can schedule a special time for you to come to a FireSide chat!

In fact, that is a smaller, more intimate setting that you may enjoy more.

Are you Exercising for longer life????

Are you Exercising for longer life????
How important is exercising to you?
It has been a vital part of my life for the last 44 years.  How about you?

Why is exercise so important?
If you are a woman you are at higher risk for chronic problems like osteoporosis, diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, heart attack and stroke.  Exercising regularly can help prevent or manage all of these problems including hormone balancing!!!

Do you have to be a massive body builder or go out and run a 26.2 mile marathon or get into the Iron Man?  NO!!!!!!  You just have to move daily, consistently and in a way that challenges your body to get stronger and more flexible!  And most of all, exercising consistently improves the most important muscle in your body...........your heart!!!!!!  If that goes......well, there is no more life.

Grab my course!
I have created a course to get you started.  This course will help you figure out where to start, how to start, options for exercising, pages in the planner for planning, mindset instruction and you even have access to a personal trainer if you want.  Did you know "if you fail to plan, you plan to fail?"  So with the planner that goes with the course, you have all the tools you need to get started.

Fire Up Your Fitness Framework Course

I tell ALL my patients that when you exercise you can actually increase your life span!.  For women, certain exercises can help with hormone balancing, preventing osteoporosis (enter the dreaded hip fracture-NO THANKS!!!) and of course, help prevent or control chronic problems like diabetes, high cholesterol, cardiovascular events and mood problems.

I just took a test right here that revealed my real age!!!  I was pleasantly surprised since I have a birthday right around the corner!  Here are the results of my test. You can take the test too!

I got such high marks because of lifestyle choices I have made that have reduced my risk of chronic disease.  Exercising regularly, eating healthy, sleeping good, not having to take prescription medications are some of the things that gave me that lower age.

So, if you don’t like to exercise, have never exercised, don’t know where to start with exercising, don’t know how to start exercising, I have the solution for you.  I have written a course just for that and it is discounted if you sign up between now and 10/31/21.  Enter the code Let Me In at checkout.  After that the price goes up!

Oh, and there is a planner to go with that.  It is available here.  I highly recommend you snag that because it gives you everything you need in one place.

Please don’t think it’s too late to get started!  It’s not!!!!!  I heard someone on a call I was on the other day say that she struggled with alcohol use and was way too fat and was actually afraid she would die too soon because of her choices.  Guess what?  She gave up the alcohol, got a personal trainer (you can connect with a personal trainer in my course) and lost 40+ pounds.  She looked great!!!

I hope you decide to join me on this health and wellness journey through the Fire Up Your Fitness Framework course.  I will see you on the other side!!

Thermography vs Mammography

Thermography vs Mammography
Thermography vs Mammography - My Mom's Story
My Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 56.  It was a lump they had been following for a while and it was time to get it removed.  She went into the hospital for a lumpectomy and came out without a breast!  I was so angry about that!!!! It seemed so drastic!!   She wore a prosthesis from then on and later didn’t even wear that!  It layed on the table most of the time.  Her fake boob!

My Story

When I was 32, my provider demanded I get a baseline mammogram due to my Mom’s history.  The girl that did the test at the hospital, Linda, (I don't fondly remember her name) pressed the plates together against my breast so hard that there was an audible “pop” followed by a dark green discharge that came out of the nipple.  I was also bruised all around the breast.  That experience pretty much created a deep fear in me to ever get another mammogram.  I avoided it for years after the recommended age for screening had passed.

Finally, (I don’t remember my age), I came to my senses and scheduled another mammogram.  This time there was a dedicated breast center and the experience was much more tolerable.  I am a terrible patient, so I let the yearly screening come and go and was not good at being diligent with that.  Besides, my mammograms were usually normal.  A couple of times, there were some “calcifications” that looked suspicious so they would call me back in for a diagnostic mammogram to look further.

In 2015, I was supposed to get my screening mammogram done in January.  I already mentioned I am a terrible patient and before I realized it the year was almost gone.  I scheduled my test on my birthday in November.  I figured that would be an easy way to remember to get this done every year.  I got a call the next day that I had a suspicious lesion that was likely cancer.  WHAT?????  Yep, ER/PR+ HER2- 1 cm DCIS tumor.  I had a breast MRI to make sure there were no abnormal findings anywhere else in the surrounding musculature or bones.  It was all normal.  I had a lumpectomy and they removed 4 lymph nodes.  Once the surgical site healed, I had 33 radiation treatments.  It was a scary process but I am, at the time of this writing, cancer free.

I had decided this last year I would look into thermography to see if there were any inflammatory changes going on.  They did a baseline test and 3 months later repeated that and everything was normal.

Here’s what I know about options for breast imaging.

Mammography is standard of care.  It is a form of xray that examines breast tissue and identifies abnormalities that could be cancer.  It can also detect possible abnormalities that need further imaging as in the case of calcifications.  This can cause anxiety and is more costly.  Mammograms are recommended starting at age 50.  The starting age used to be 40 but the guidelines have changed unless you have a first degree relative with a history of breast cancer.  The guidelines also state the screening can be done every 2 years.  This is a discussion you should have with your provider.

Drawbacks of mammogram are xray exposure and deep compression of breast tissue and false findings resulting in more imaging.

Thermography is another screening tool but is not considered standard of care.  It is a form of infrared technology that detects and records temperature changes on the surface of the skin.  It is thought that if there are cancer cells then those cells create inflammation which will show up on the imaging as elevated skin temperature.  There are some benefits to consider - see the above chart

Thermography is not recommended as a substitute for mammography or breast MRI

Moving forward, I will continue to get mammograms and may continue to alternate that screening with thermography.  This last year I did only thermography.  This year I will do another mammogram (ugh!!)
