"I Didn’t Know I Was an Artist"

"I Didn’t Know I Was an Artist"

For most of my life, I admired art from a distance. I poured myself into creative outlets like sewing, cross-stitch, stained glass, and even woodworking—but painting? That felt like something other people did. Real artists. Trained artists.  People with natural born talent.

Then, about seven years ago, I stumbled across some acrylic painting tutorials on YouTube. I thought I’d just try one for fun. And something clicked. The paintbrush felt natural in my hand. I didn’t know how to explain it, but I felt like I had finally found the thing I had been circling around all those years.

I started experimenting more, painting when I could, often after work in the evening when I should have been cleaning or getting ready for the next day.  I was just drawn to it.  I had no formal training, just a tug in my spirit that this was something I was meant to do. Over time, I stopped copying others and began creating from my own heart after signing up for the Milan Art Mastery Program and began the process of uncovering not just technique, but my unique voice.

Now, I call myself an artist not because I’ve “arrived,” but because I’ve accepted the truth: I was one all along. I just needed to say yes to the call.

It’s never too late to become who you’re meant to be.  If you have a desire to learn the various techniques of making art then allow me to share this link for Milan Art.  They have several classes you can take from the big program "The Mastery Program" to other smaller classes that focus on one technique or topic.

Blessings, Shoshana
